Type 2 diabetes risk increases with age. Type 1 can also occur at any age but is more common in people less than 30.
Can one get diabetes later is life? Well, the majority of diabetics develop diabetes later in life. Unfortunately, like everything, time wears everything down including the relatively few insulin secreting cells in the body. When one develops diabetes, they have lost at least 66% of their insulin making capacity.
