Preferably having the gum treated by a periodontist prior to having an implant placed.
Yes, it is said that dental implants are the only cure for bad gums. Implants have a tighter seal than teeth and bacteria infection rates are much less.
Implants can be placed if there is enough height and width of bone, It all depends on the bone level and not gums! Know that if the gums are bad which under them is the bone, still you can get a tooth implant via bone grafting, and waiting for osseointegration then placing the dental implant!

There is NO definitive answer. Bad gums many times are coupled with very weak or limited amount of bone structure. In many cases, a bone graft is required and then you can certainly have implants placed with good prognosis.
Hello,

It is best if you get a complete evaluation and treat gum disease. Infection of gums most of the time affects the underlying bones and it will interfere with the healing and integration of the implant. Implants should not be placed just to fill holes, but rather as part of a plan to rehabilitate your whole mouth and body. Think about it as replacing only one tire on your car while some of the other three or all are bad, or ignoring the completely worn out brakes.
Good luck.
