My daughter is 7 years old and has long hair. Lately it seems like a lot more hair is falling out than normal.

Could be fungal. Sometimes no specific reason is found. They lose old hair and new comes out. Discuss with your pediatrician.
Hair follicles can shed in cycles, so at times it seems more. Make sure there is no traction on the roots from tight pony tail. Is she eating a healthy diet? Vitamin supplements for hair and nails can sometimes help.
