My mother in law is 70 years old and is suffering from diabetes. Her kidneys are now beginning to fail and the doctor has suggested to immediately get a fistula done. However, she is pretty reluctant and is refusing the treatment. What should I do to convince her that this is something that she has to do?

Dialysis is expensive and tedious for the elderly. But the patient needs to understand that without dialysis, her life expectancy will be limited to 1-2 years at best. Having understood this, if she still makes the decision to forego dialysis, then the family needs to respect her choice.
