Urologist Questions Urinary Tract Infections

Can just cranberry get rid of my UTI infection?

I have been diagnosed with a UTI infection and I know cranberry is good for it. Will this alone be adequate treatment for my condition?

Prior to invention of antibiotics, majority of UTI were cured by the body. However, some would become complicated, and lead to kidney or prostate infection and even death. Depending on your age, gender, and other medical conditions, this may not be a good idea.
You can try to flush your system, but depending on the how aggressive the bacteria is will determine that. Better to take Vit C 500mg tablets.

Some studies have found that drinking cranberry juice or taking cranberry pills can prevent UTIs, especially in women who are at risk for these infections. No proof yet to show it treats UTIs.
If you have an active, bacterial infection with symptoms, then the preferred treatment is antibiotics. Especially if you have a fever or shakes or chills. Cranberry should be considered a preventative for UTI, not a treatment on its own.
Cranberry extracts have been shown to be mildly effective in some studies to prevent UTIs but this is controversial. If you have a culture proven UTI then you should be started on appropriate antibiotics
It may not be adequate alone
