Cardiologist Questions Angioplasty

Do people recovering from heart surgery cough often?

My grandfather, 70, just had an angioplasty, and now it seems like he's dealing with a persistent cough. Is this reason to worry? Could a surgery like this cause his cough?

Sometimes
Yes, it should resolve.
Angioplasty is not heart surgery. It is a less invasive way to treat coronary diseaseby a cardiologist. Cough could be due to a number of reasons. Best to see an internist if he has symptoms that persist.
First of all, angioplasty is not really surgery. Most likely a cough is due to a medicine class called an ACE inhibitor. This is a blood pressure pill most commonly called lisinopril. Other
similar medicines end in "-pril," like ramipril or captopril. Ask his doctor if he is taking this type of pill.
