Do retainers need to be worn all night?

I am a 23 year old male. I just got my retainer. Do retainers need to be worn all night?

yes
Retainers should be worn for at least 8 hours. If you can’t wear them at night, perhaps you should try wear them during the day.
Retainers need to be worn as close to eight hours per day as possible - more is better, less is worse. For most people, through the night as they sleep is the most convenient time. If for some reason that does not work for a patient, at least eight hours continuously is best at some other time of the 24-hr day will suffice.
In my humble opinion yes, and in the beginning as much as possible. Teeth can move back if not retained properly.

If you just got your braces off then yes! It actually takes 2 years for the elastic fibers in your gum tissue to remodel, so those first 2 years after you get your braces off are your highest risk period for relapse. Follow your orthodontist's instructions on how much you should be wearing them.
We advise our patients to wear their retainers 8-10 hours each 24-hour period.

Retainers should be worn 8-12 hours in a 24 hour period if you would like to maintain the results from your orthodontic treatment. Therefore it is convenient to wear retainers while you sleep. You will risk shifting of your teeth if retainers are worn less than 8 hours/day.
If you want to keep your teeth from moving away from your finished orthodontic treatment positions, you must incorporate some form of "retention." Every orthodontist has their own protocol for retention and each patient doesn't get the same type of retainer. We use fixed retainers, removable retainers, and sometimes both. Each situation is different, but the point is that teeth usually need life-long "retention."

Yes.
Many orthodontists want more hours than just sleeping, especially early in retention, but all night is a minimum for many years if you want to maintain your nice result. Your orthodontist can best advise you based on the initial condition and his/her experience.
Yes, you have to wear them all night!
Usually growth happens then.
