Depending on the degree of deformity they may help. They can relieve inflammation of bursa over the bunion and thus help with Acute pain and inflammation. For structural bunion deformity with joints deformed, bones maligned and soft tissues altered these are only of temporary help. You certainly can try them but in my experience long term most people are happier with a well performed surgical fit. If you use spaces make sure the toe box is not too narrow or they will be of no help. Good luck.
Bunions can result from multiple different pathologies which can be determined from an x-ray by a specialist. For some but not all of these causes, toe separators can help to temporarily relief symptoms, however toe separators will not improve your condition or in other words "resolve" the bunion.
