Do you have to take your clothes off for an MRI?

I need to have an MRI next week, but I never had one before. Do you need to take your clothes off for an MRI? This MRI is for kidney pain.

No. You only have to remove magnetic/metallic objects.
Yes. You will be given a gown and asked to remove your outer clothing. This is to ensure there is no metal that will either cause artifact in the images. It is also important to remove any material that can cause skin burns during the MRI. Many fabrics are quite complex and can contain metallic fibers.
Remove wallet, credit cards, keys, jewelry, and watch. Empty all pockets. If you are wearing clothing with no metal, it would be MRI safe. Choose elastic or tie wast band. If the technologist has any questions about your clothing, they may elect to have you disrobe and put on a patient gown.
You can wear a T-shirt, underwear, sport pants and socks during your MRI examinations. Be sure that there is absolutely no metal present. If there is a metal zip in the pants, you may not wear these during the MRI examinations.

Please note there are some yoga pants, T-shirt’s , underwear with metal fibers that should not be worn as there is a risk of burns (Lululemon @ silver microfibers and other popular yoga brands ).

Wearing jewelry during the MRI examinations is not allowed.
