Does a dislocated shoulder show on an X-ray?

My doctor suspects I might have a dislocated shoulder and ordered an X-ray. Does a dislocated shoulder show on an X-ray?

Yes.
The short answer is yes, a dislocated shoulder will show on an X-ray. The most common type of disclocation is anterior, and the easiest to see on the X-ray. Posterior dislocations are harder to identify, but a good radiologist will not have trouble. There could be an associated fracture to the humeral head or glenoid, and should be a comment if present or not. Hope this helps.
