Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon Questions TMJ

Does TMJ require surgery?

I have TMJ but I never had it treated before. I'm tired of feeling discomfort in my jaw from it. Does TMJ require surgical treatment?

Typically not, much more often there will be non-surgical modalities that will help enough that you don't feel surgery is worth it.
TMJ problems do not always require surgery. In fact, most (but not all) cases can be treated conservatively with bite adjustment, an oral appliance or physical therapy. If the above fail to provide satisfactory results, then surgery can be considered.

No not usually but you need to have the right diagnosis made, this may require additional xrays including an MRI to determine the next appropriate step. Fortunately most cases of TMJ disorders are managed with non surgical methods.
