Why do I experience cramping before passing stools?

Just before passing stools, I have a cramp in my abdomen that really hurts. What should I do for this? Why is it happening?

This pain comes from the colon either contracting or stretching during the process of defecation. Once the stool is evacuated, the colon relaxes and the pain resolves. People with IBS have a more sensitive colon so the pain will be more intense due to hypersensitivity of the colon. There are medications to help with this so try to find a good GI doc who will treat IBS and not just do procedures.
