Gastroenterologist Questions Enema

Are home enemas a safe option after a bypass surgery?

My father recently underwent a bypass surgery and is suffering from extreme constipation after coming back home. My local pharmacist recommended to try a home enema. Is it safe to try it for a bypass patient?

I do not know what bypass your father underwent but temporary use of enemas is safe.
Yes, It should be safe to try a home enema after a bypass surgery. Not sure if you mean a heart bypass for coronary artery disease or a stomach bypass for obesity, but should be safe for either.
Hi. How old is your father? It is important to avoid constipation and straining of any sort after bypass, so if he needs to use an enema, then OTC Fleet enemas are easily available. Fleet mineral oil enema works well in case of fecal impaction.
