How can I avoid dry eye disease?

My mother is struggling with dry eye disease, and I don't really want to be struggling with that in the future. What can I do to avoid it?

It's a part of aging, eye surface disease, sun damage, reduced eye lid blink rate. Moisturizers and eye drops for lubrication help. Larger sunglasses may be protective.
Eat a healthy diet and stay hydrated. Have regular eye exams after age 50 or sooner if symptoms develop.
Sorry, but there are no fixed answers. It is easier to describe things you can do to treat dry eyes. If it is a genetic connection, there are no “fixes.”
