“How can diabetes affect my heart?”
Since I have been diagnosed with diabetes, my blood sugar levels have gone to extreme highs and lows. Is there any chance that diabetes would affect my heart?

Yes, high glucose levels seem to damage the lining of your arteries. It is important to get good glucose control by adjustment of your diet and treatment.
If you have type-2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes it is also genetically linked to high blood pressure, which damages the arteries more – so worth checking.
ACE-inhibitor treatment seems to give some protection.

Diabetes significantly increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes, peripheral Vascular disease and heart failure. Good blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol control as well avoid smoking, avoiding alcohol excess, and step 2 diet and exercise can help reduce the risk of these complications.
Many ways platelets in arteries (not good, inflammation of arteries, increase in clots, stress to arteries and more are very bad risk factors)
Diabetes is a risk factor for atherosclerosis so you are correct in being concerned about your cardiovascular health in the long run
