There is no sure fire way to know unless you see an eye care professional.
Allergies tend to be more chronic and affect both eyes at the same time. To definitively determine, you will need to see an an eye care specialist.

It's likely to be pink eye since both of you are infected. Good hygiene, cleansing of eyes and face will help you recover spontaneously.
