If your son has recurring ear infections an IgA deficiency may be present. A simple blood test can confirm then a small dose of prophylactic antibiotic at bedtime solves problem. He may then grow out of it and no longer need antibiotic and won't have ear infections or subjected to unnecessary ear adenoid surgery.
Most middle ear infections at his age occur with sinusitis or upper respiratory infections. Younger than 2 years old children are more prone to infections because the eustachian tube for the middle ear lets fluid go to the middle ear when the are sucking or laying back. But when the face elongated with growth infections are less likely. Some children continue to get them if they have nasal allergies or recurrent sinusitis or eustachian tube dysfunction.
