Usually friction or overuse
Bursitis can develop from overuse of the body part (repetitive motion) or from trauma. Those are most likely scenarios.
Bursitis of the elbow is common. Usually secondary to repeatedly putting excessive pressure on your elbow. This can occur for example if you are working and constantly place your elbow on the table top. It can sometimes be an acute finding so for example it may occur if you bump your elbow hard against the door accidentally.
Olecranon (elbow) bursitis usually occurs if you are on you are doing activities where you put your weight through your elbows (like crawling on your elbows). When more friction is applied to the olecranon (the pointy part of the elbow), the bursa that sits under the skin to cushion the bone can get inflamed and swell which is bursitis.
Usually from pressure directly on the olecranon process, the tip of your elbow. It can be drained or removed if the fluid persists
People usually sustained bursitis of the elbow from excessive activity or overuse of the elbow. Usually, people sustained both tendinitis and bursitis at the elbow especially the lateral epicondyle I which is lateral bony prominence of the elbow the muscle which attaches to this lateral epicondyle I extend the wrist. With excessive lifting, pulling or pushing as well as a playing tennis the attachment of the muscle at the lateral epicondyle I will be inflamed causing swelling and pain. Such symptom is diagnosed as tennis elbow or lateral epicondylitis. I recommend that you decrease your activity with your elbow and take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication medication such as ibuprofen, Aleve, or Advil. If you play tennis, you should decrease the tension of the string and or increasing the grip size of the tennis racquet. If your symptoms are not relieved, I recommend that you see an orthopedic surgeon or family doctor for a steroid injection. You can also wear elbow strap which is available in most pharmacies.
I hope that you will feel better.

Bursitis. Is an inflammation of a normal sac that is present around bony prominences. In the usual state there is no fluid in it so it is flat. As a result of repetitive injury nor over use the sac becomes inflamed and fills with fluid to form a cushion to protect the bony prominence. Rest, ice and ibuprofen should help with the symptoms
If it is on the tip of the elbow, it's called olecranon bursitis. That is usually caused by repetitive pressure or rubbing of the skin at the tip of the elbow. People who crawl on their elbows get it commonly. Make sure you're not resting or rubbing on the tip of the elbow. Wear an elbow pad like volleyball players do. Usually, it will go away. If not, see an orthopedic surgeon.
