Ask your orthodontist, everyone is different. The braces may need to be done more slowly.

Communicate the symptoms to the treating dentist. Use non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for discomfort.
The pain from tightening braces is just part of the process of movement of the teeth during orthodontics. The only thing you can do is to take pain killers directly after your appointment. The best one to use is Motrin (ibuprofen) 800 mg if you can take it. It works on the pain and the inflammation and should relieve the pain. Other wise you just have to wait for the teeth to move, settle, the pain will go away until the next time you tighten them.
