Acupuncture can cure anxiety in many cases. The mechanism is very complicated. In Chinese Medicine emotion is not only related nerve system but also related to liver, heart and spleen, especially, liver functions etc. Each acupoint can acts on multiple organs at the same time. In modern words, acupuncture can regulate and adjust the level of multiple neurotransmitters synergistically, resulting in profound effects on nerve system and multiple other organs at the same time. Most patients experience significant relief of anxiety with acupuncture management.
It helps to regulate hormones and increases serotonin, dopamine and other endorphins that ease stress and relax.
Anxiety can be caused from a variety of root causes. Depending on the root cause and etiology of your Anxiety, it can definitely help significantly.
In Chinese medicine, there is an emotion attached to every organ, so as we treat the physical body, we are treating the emotional body, as well. After treatments you will feel more relaxed, calm, grounded, and less anxious. After multiple treatments, those feelings last longer and longer.
Absolutely yes but it is more effective if combined with some sort of self help practices which we can teach you and counseling if necessary to discover the origins of your anxiety.

Honestly, science has not determined the how of how acupuncture works, so i couldn't answer that definitively for you. I have seen it get rid of symptoms numerous times in patients.
Thank you for your question,
If you are interested in treating your anxiety with acupuncture, your first step will be to consult your medical doctor. It is also important that you receive these services from a licensed acupuncturist. Professional acupuncturist can be located through websites, including the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture. The use of acupuncture to treat medical and mental health conditions continues to rise, making it more readily available. Since it has been evaluated for effectiveness and is available at some medical practices, some insurance policies may cover your acupuncture treatments if you have health insurance. Clinical trials examining acupuncture for anxiety has shown positive results. However, this research has some limitations, including small sample sizes and limited measures to asses outcomes. Western science cannot explain exactly how acupuncture helps anxiety, but scientific research has shown that acupuncture has a calming effect. The explanation from a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective would depend on what imbalances an acupuncturist would find in your general health. They should be able to explain what they feel the imbalances are, and why they’re treating the points that they use.

Acupuncture helps anxiety by releasing chemical compounds such as endorphins, norepinephrine, and enkephalins from the brain that have a calming effect on the body. The potency of some of these chemical substances can be 10-200 times more effective than morphine.
Usually patients have 2 treatments a week that last 30 minutes each for a period of 10 to 12 weeks. After that initial course of treatment, a patient will usually have 2 treatments a month or as
needed.
Thank you for your question.

Yes, acupuncture can help with anxiety. I have successfully treated many patients with this issue. There are certain points on the body that elicit a sense of calm and in addition, the needles stimulate the release of endorphins. Endorphins are chemicals that help to relieve pain or stress and boost happiness. My patients with anxiety always feel very relaxed after their treatment and most times fall asleep.
I hope my response is helpful.

It helps to bring the body into balance. Your acupuncturist will work to find the system that is working improperly then use points to begin correcting it.
I have several patients with anxiety that have gained benefit from acupuncture treatment. The theory behind it is to use needles to release negative energy that affects your emotions.
TCM believes that anxiety disease disorder belongs to the category of " heart disease " of emotional disease, and its clinical manifestations similar to " startled " and " lily disease ". The cause are mostly physical deficiency, internal damage, and emotional evil invasion. The disease is located in the heart, lings, spleen, kidney, and gall. The pathogenesis is phlegm-heat, yin deficiency and fire, and qi depression. Modern medicine believes that anxiety is related to individual biological characteristics and socio-psychological facters. Research on pathogensis of anxiety disorder is considered to be the result of the interaction of various factors such as various biological changes, the multi-organization and multi-organic tube involvement and the interaction of the nervous, endocrine and immune systems. Acupuncture occupies a very important position in the study of the effectiveness of anxiety disorders with its unique theoretical system and methods. With its simple, economical and non-toxic effects, it has been recognized by doctors and patients in the treatment of anxiety disorders.
From a scientific perspective, acupuncture is doing a couple things for anxiety.
1. Acupuncture treatment stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system and helps to bring a person out of the "fight or flight" sympathetic side. This allows someone enter in to a more relaxed state.
2. Acupuncture has been shown to interact with the GABA system in the brain. This is the same system that anti-anxiety drugs like xanax or valium are interacting with. The GABA system is a central nervous system inhibitor and it also causes a degree of relaxation which can take the edge off for anxiety patients.
For the best results, you need to make sure you're seeing someone who is licensed as an acupuncturist in your state. You want a provider who attended and graduated from an accredited school of Chinese medicine and, ideally, is nationally board certified in acupuncture or oriental medicine. If you're not in CA, you can use the 'Find a Practitioner' look up at NCCAOM.org to get a list of people local to you.
