The mechanisms of general anesthesia are fascinating and still not completely known. It is thought that inhalation anesthetics temporarily disturb the brain's ability to identify and remember stimuli the body receives during surgery. Brain activity slows during general anesthesia and connectivity between different parts of the brain are impaired.
You will be in a controlled coma with no feeling, no reflexes, no breathing. The anesthesiologist will keep you stable and alive.
