Abrasive action
Baking soda has a gritty and abrasive texture. It can able to remove staining from the extinous surface of the teeth. However, it is not recommended to be used daily as a tooth paste, due to its abrasive nature will remove the enamel and compormised the tooth structure.
It adds an abrasive quality to the process while being non-harmful and not laden with chemicals.

Baking soda is abrasive, like sand. It is mixed into the toothpaste and makes it grainy. Brushing the teeth with either toothpaste mixed with baking soda or baking soda alone acts like a polish and cleans the surface of the teeth. It will not clean well if there is hardened tartar on the teeth. Make sure your teeth are professionally cleaned prior to using the baking soda products to make sure it is effective.
Baking soda cleans your teeth because it is so abrasive. It's pH is also very "basic" so it helps reduce the pH that the plaque acids produce. We do not recommend using baking soda frequently because it is too abrasive for your teeth. Consider using Arm & Hammer toothpaste that contains baking soda in it.
Backing soda is on the opposite spectrum of acidic products. It is basic. It could in improper amounts lead to enamel loss. Id only recommend it in a toothpaste that already has it in there and is properly formulated to not harm enamel.
