Dentist Questions Dental filling

How long after a filling can I eat and drink?

I'm going to have a dental filling next week. How long should I wait after a filling to eat and drink?

This depends on the type of filling done. If you get a white filling you can eat and drink immediately. If you get a silver filling it is recommended you wait one hour. Remember, in either case you are still numb so you want to avoid hot things and chewing on your cheek and/or tongue.
That depends on the location and type of filling. It may be best to wait a day, but have your dentist answer your question.
Depending on the type of filling placed, you may need to wait up to an hour or so before you eat. If you receive a local anesthetic injection, you may also want to wait until you can fully feel your tongue and lips before eating.
