Many things that a blepharoplasty accomplishes last indefinitely. The fat which is removed does not grow back. The excess skin which is removed does not grow back. Therefore a person will always look better for having had a blepharoplasty despite the aging process. However while the skin and fat which was removed does not grow back the brows descend with age which creates the appearance that some of the upper lid skin is recurring. Similarly the skin of the lower eyelids ages loses elastic fibers and collagen and wrinkles with time. Therefore as one ages The eyelids will also appear older. This however is not the surgery wearing off but the process of aging going on.
Thank you for your question. Generally, a four lid blepharoplasty has multiple components to the procedure. Usual upper lid involves skin resection and small amount of fat. At times later in life, fat pad herniation may happen again or skin redundancy. Lower lid fat pads can be trans-located into tear trough area to create a younger and smoother transition between lower lids and cheeks. Other than these procedures, there may be other surgical procedures needed, but not for the purpose of this answer. In general, a well-executed blepharoplasty should last many years and rarely need to be redone.
The results of a well-done blepharoplasty should result in long term results. While each patient’s eyelid skin stretches and sags at different rates, but 8-12 years is a good estimate for most patients.
