Insomnia is very complicated medical problems. It is also difficulty to treat with acupuncture. The mechanism is very complicated. In Chinese Medicine insomnia is not only related to nerve system but also related to liver, heart, stomach and bladder functions etc. Each acupoint can acts on multiple organs at the same time. In modern words, Acupuncture can regulate and adjust the level of multiple neurotransmitter and hormones synergistically, resulting in profound effects on nerve system and multiple other organs at the same time. Many patients felt difference after several treatments with significant relief of insomnia.
Each individual would respond differently, depending on the underlying cause and other modalities used.
Acupuncture usually work very fast. However there are other factors to consider (how long you have insomnia). Good luck
For many right away for some gradually better. For a good result acupuncture should go with massage and herbs !
Doctor has to do an evaluation for you first to figure out what caused your insomnia, e.g., night urination, stress, pain, etc.
We've had a lot of success treating insomnia in our practice. Here are some tips and case studies: https://healingwithzen.com/what-we-heal/insomnia/

How many treatments and how long it takes to see results depends case to case. During our initial consultation, we talk in depth about your health history, lifestyle and emotional state. We are then able to design a personalized plan to help patients reach their health goals.

I'm sorry you are having trouble sleeping. How quickly one responds to treatment varies between individuals and depends upon many factors. Are you on any medications that have insomnia as a side effect? Are you drinking caffeinated drinks or foods (chocolate) late in the afternoon or evening? Do you work out late at night? Do you have an irregular work schedule? All of these and more can be the cause of your insomnia. Very often it is due to stress...at work, home, financial worries. I would suggest avoiding watching the news late at night, as this can be very anxiety producing especially in the face of worries over the pandemic. I would avoid those around you that cause you stress. Taking part in internal exercises such as yoga, meditation, tai chi are very helpful in cases of insomnia. Try to avoid spicy or greasy foods and increase your fiber intake...leafy greens and other fruits and veggies.
Cherries are high in melatonin, nature's natural sleep remedy. Try to avoid eating late at night. Do some light stretching before bed to relax you. Drink some chamomile tea, sleepytime tea, warm milk, etc.
All of these things can help you sleep better, but if you still find that you are having trouble, acupuncture can be very helpful. But it's still important to isolate the cause of your insomnia. If it is stress that is keeping you up, you may consider seeing a professional for counseling. Acupuncture can be helpful only insofar as you are willing to help yourself. Good luck!!!
Merry Christmas! Acupuncture can vary based on the individual’s response to acupuncture and its effects. Usually, there is an immediate response that may last a few days for the week. The effects also depend on how chronic the condition is, but generally speaking, insomnia can be resolved after a few treatments, most likely with herbal supplementation.
Usually pretty quick
For chronic insomnia, you should be able to notice results within 3-4 treatments. It is not uncommon to feel some improvement sooner than that. A typical course of treatment is 2 visits a week for 3 weeks along with Chinese herbs. That is typically followed by 1 treatment per week for 3 weeks along with Chinese herbs.

Best wishes,

Depends on many factors like how long you have had it, is it falling asleep or staying asleep, possible causes, medical history. Some respond fast, and others slow.
Every case is different, insomnia could come from lots of different reasons. In general, it will take in between 5 to 10 sessions to see real changes. But, usually from the first couple of sessions you’ll start to get better quality of sleep.
Most of my patients start to sleep better the night of their treatments, and it just lasts longer and longer with every subsequent treatment.
3-10 times.
It depends on what the cause is... usually, acupuncture works and demonstrates results in 3-10 treatments, and sometimes faster. I have seen insomnia respond quite well... unless it is something like pain causing the insomnia... then it depends how fast or whether the pain dissipates or disappears which can vary.
Yes, many patients even sleep with needles on them in the treatment
It’s difficult to tell. We would need to find out the reason for the insomnia and then I would also add herbs to support the root cause of the insomnia, and slowly your sleep should improve.
The "how many treatments" question is one I get a lot. It's very difficult to answer for several reasons:

1. The Chinese diagnostic system takes in to account individual factors in presentation. Three people could walk in to my clinic with insomnia but, from the perspective of Chinese medicine, all three could be experiencing the issue for different reasons. Those different root causes will have different treatments. Some root causes respond faster to treatment than others and some people respond faster to treatment than others.

2. There are a variety of different systems of acupuncture. Some of these systems are better for dealing with certain kinds of issues relative to other systems. Without knowing what kind of acupuncture your provider practices, it's hard to know whether or not there's a good fit between that system of acupuncture and your issue.

3. As in conventional medicine, some practitioners are just better with certain kinds of issues relative to other practitioners. There's an add-on here specific to acupuncture: depending on where you're located, there could be providers who offer "acupuncture" without having attended school for Chinese medicine or actually being licensed or board certified as an acupuncturist. Without knowing whether or not you're seeing a board certified and state licensed acupuncturist and what that person's track record is with issues like insomnia it is, again, difficult to predict what a course of therapy might look like.

My experience treating insomnia is that it either responds very quickly – like in 1-3 treatments – or not at all. Your experience may differ depending on your provider.
Usually it take about 2-3 sessions.
That is dependent on why you have insomnia, how long you've had it, and your compliance with your practitioners treatment plan.

Typically, the longer something has been in existence, the longer it will take to resolve, but acupuncture has a cumulitive effect. As you continue with regular treaments, your results will last longer and longer and eventually, you may be able to decrease your treatment frequency and stop treatments.
There is no set time frame for acupuncture to work for insomnia, but as a general rule, the patient should notice positive changes after a series of 4 - 6 treatments. Insomnia is a reflection of an imbalance in the energy of the body. Acupuncture works with the patient's own natural healing abilities to assist to increase wellness.
