Dermatologist Questions Mohs Surgery

How long is the recovery after Mohs surgery?

I'm getting Mohs surgery at the end of this month, and my doctor didn't really tell me much about the recovery time. I guess when it gets closer he'll tell me about what to expect. But I'm curious, how long does it take for the surgical area to heal after surgery?

Assuming you can close the defect without a graft or flap procedure, most sutures are removed in about a week. May take a bit longer if a flap or graft is used. It is still the very best procedure to remove any tumor!!
It all depends on the area and how many stages need to be done. The closure can be a simple one or more complex. This will all play in to recovery time. You need to ask the surgeon.

This question depends on many factors. The type of skin cancer, the size, location, and extent of the skin cancer, and the type of repair performed. Patients with typical surgeries and linear repairs, will usually see their sutures removed in 5 - 14 days (depending on location). After that time, regular activities can usually be resumed, make-up can be applied, and bandages are no longer necessary.
The wound will not be completely healed for several weeks (just like any other surgical wound), and during that time your doctor may want you to apply creams that help in the healing process and improve the final appearance of the scar.
If a flap or a graft is necessary, then the healing process may take longer.
The majority of my patients can return to work the next day, and resume their normal activities soon thereafter. I hope that was helpful.
Depends how it is closed or if closed at all. It is highly dependent on the location of the skin cancer. If the wound is closed on the face usually sutures are in for 5-7 days. I'd suggest you contact your surgeon for specifics about what to expect.
