There are a few things that you can do to take part in your mom's care to ensure that she is doing okay.

1. Get a camera system like Nest or other competitor and put one in her home. Let her know that you can see what she is doing with the camera and keep a set of eyes on her in case she needs help. This way you can always keep an eye on her with your phone from anywhere.

2. Face time call or visit her on a regular basis to see how she is doing and go over her daily schedule with regard to eating and taking medications.

3. Accompany her to a doctor visit to ensure that she understands and remembers all aspects of her care.

4. Ask your doctor about home health if she requires some assistance at home. This could be very helpful because there would be another set of eyes to watch your mom.
How often do you see her? Is she bathed, well kept, dressing herself and generally managing her life? If so, then she's taking care of herself. Visit her and observe.
Check the fridge. Is she eating? Are her clothes clean? Does the house look dirty? Does she have a pet? Does your mom drive?
