I need to remove one tooth. Would this be really painful?

Not typically. You may not even need narcotic pain medication post op.
With a proper freezing, there's no pain at all.
This is hard to answer as there are many factors that determine this. Upper vs. lower tooth (lowers are tougher), back tooth vs. front tooth (molars are more difficult). Decay vs. gum disease as the reason for removal, fillings, amount of tooth structure remaining, general dentist vs. oral surgeon, etc. Best to find out from the dentist about to do the extraction and the experience level.
