How to treat a spinal disc herniation?

My doctor said I have a spinal disc herniation. I don't know what to think. It might have happened because of many years of cement work. How to treat a spinal disc herniation?

The disc herniation usually heals by itself. You need an operation only if your pain is too severe or if your nerve deficit worsens.
I initially treat them conservatively with physical therapy and possibly epidural injections for 6 wks. If that doesn’t work then I perform surgery. Having said that if you’re having intractable leg pain, numbness and tingling then I recommend surgery sooner to avoid nerve damage.
If it's caused by a neurological deficit or severe pain, it must have surgery. Otherwise, we can conservatively manage it.
There are a number of ways to treat a disk herniation. Many patient's get better with time. Others require injections. A small number of patients end up with surgery.
This may consist of PT, injections, home core strengthening exercises. I also recommend acupuncture having suffered from this condition myself. Please see your orthopedist or pain doctor for treatment. Thanks
