Chiropractor Questions Chronic headaches

Is a chiropractic adjustment a good option for chronic headaches?

I'm 27, and I have had issues with chronic headaches ever since I had a car accident a few years ago. I heard that chiropractic care can actually help me with this as well. Is this true?

Absolutely. When you have those old injuries, it’s great to be checked by a chiropractor, especially when you’re experiencing pain from those injuries.
Chiropractic can be a very effective treatment option for chronic headaches.
Yes. Chiropractic care has the ability to relieve headaches. Post-traumatic chronic headaches should be evaluated by a chiropractor or a neurologist. Diagnosing what is causing them to rule out more severe diagnoses should be priority #1
Chiropractic is an excellent choice for treatment of chronic headaches. Since you were involved in a car accident and have had pain ever since, no doubt there is some nerve impingement coming from misaligned vertebrae in your neck. The chiropractor will fix this problem and your headaches will improve. One of the more successful noninvasive remedies for chronic headaches is chiropractic care.
Definitely. We have had much success in our clinic with this problem. Gravitational forces that the cervical spine (neck) is subjected to in a "whiplash" type injury alters its normal biomechanical configuration. This in turn creates undue stress on muscles and ligaments, affects normal range of motion and creates nerve irritation. These types of headaches rarely ever are relieved very long with medication and the more often they occur the more meds you take, which is not a good thing for the body.

Since your accident happened a few years ago your condition has become chronic, so don't expect a miracle. It will take some time. The more correction you receive relative to the biomechanical distortion, the longer you will be able to go without the recurrence. In the future, when the doctor has your problem under control and you have a flare-up, it may only take one adjustment to get relief for several weeks or months.

Hello,

Chiropractic has been proven to be effective for headache treatment. Depending on the cause of your headaches, which can vary widely, chiropractic should be a good option. Google local chiropractors in your area, read their reviews, and ask family and friends who they recommend.

The short answer it yes, chiropractic treatment can probably help you get rid of your headaches.

This is copied from the Duke University Headache study:

"Spinal manipulation was associated with improvement in headache outcomes in two trials involving patients with neck pain and/or neck dysfunction and headache. Manipulation appeared to result in immediate improvement in headache severity when used to treat episodes of cervicogenic headache when compared with an attention-placebo control. Furthermore, when compared to soft-tissue therapies (massage), a course of manipulation treatments resulted in sustained improvement in headache frequency and severity."

Headaches have many different classifications. They can be multifactorial (of multiple causes) and complex to resolve at times. It sounds to me that the true source has yet to be identified or the right sequence of interventions have not been utilized. Chiropractic Physicians are specialists that have an excellent reputation for treating various types of headaches. In my own practice the vast majority of those I see do get exceptional results. Keep in mind, I don’t take every case and haven’t been able to resolve the headaches in every patient. I would recommend seeking out a consultation first to see if the practitioner is a good fit. That is an excellent time to learn about the doctor’s philosophy, techniques, and areas of interest in addition to spinal manipulation (ie. functional medicine, acupuncture, corrective exercises, soft tissue techniques, or energy medicine). From there you can schedule an exam if it appears to be a good fit. Ultimately, be encouraged. The fact that your headaches have been there a long time does not mean they cannot be resolved.
Chiropractic care can definitely help with chronic headaches. Especially if there has been a traumatic event involved. Depending on the severity, it should resolve rather quickly.
Yes
It is true, but every case is different
Yes this is true. In my practice, my patients have a lot of success with headache relief and migraine relief, especially after car accidents where their necks have been jostled.
