“Is a colonoscopy safe?”
I'm 42 years old and I'm going to have my first colonoscopy. Is a colonoscopy safe?

Yes, a colonoscopy is safe. There are risks involved everytime you go inside the human body (ie. infection, bleeding, reaction to meds they use to put you to sleep and even putting a hole or tear in the colon from the scope they use), however, all of these are very RARE. Most people wake up and can't believe we did it already.
Yes it is safe when performed by a well-qualified and experienced Gastroenterologist however, you should discuss all possible complications with your specialist.
