CT contrast materials are not radioactive. However, the contrast material can cause allergy reaction to some sensitive people and to some people it can damage the kidneys. This why pre CT screening is perform. The radiation during the CT exam is coming from the X ray tube inside the CT scanner. It is usually a very safe exam and the radiation should not be a concern for someone in your age.
