“Is facelift surgery safe?”
I am a 48 year old woman who is thinking about getting a facelift done. Is facelift surgery safe?

As long as you are healthy, without significant medical issues, facelift surgery is a reasonably safe operation. Even with issues such as high blood pressure or heart problems, surgery can be performed after medical clearance by your personal physician.

Yes, if completed by a board certified plastic surgeon with experience in facelift surgery. Your age is younger than most candidates for this surgery, therefore you must be seen by an experienced surgeon. Make sure of their credentials. And, make sure you are a candidate.
Facelift surgery is a general, layperson’s term than encompasses many surgical maneuvers, techniques, and anatomical areas. Safety should be a primary concern both in the technique and selection if patient. If good choices are made, facelift procedures should be very safe. Having said that, there intrinsic risks that exist that a surgeon should explain to you. A surgeon should have the same goals as you in mind: a safety and a good result.
We do facelifts under sedation only, so the anesthesia is a safe as it can be. All surgery has some degree of risks, but with this they are minor in nature. Make sure your doctor discusses all risks with you before.

Thanks for your question. It is common to ask if any elective surgery safe. That being said, the safety of a procedure mostly has to do with your relative health and the length of the procedure. That is why it is important to go to a surgeon who is board-certified and has a good reputation inside the community.
