“Is gastric banding minimally invasive?”
I want to have bariatric surgery to lose some weight since my other options really failed. I'm considering gastric banding. Is this minimally invasive though?

It is minimally invasive, but may not be right option for you. Goes by BMI and other factors. Gastric Sleeve is laparoscopic and is in vogue now. Also, duodenal switch.
Gastric banding is considered a minimally invasive surgery; however, it is largely ineffective and holds significant long-term risk. Up to 50% of people with bands are having revisional surgery.
Banding was done about 40% of the time up until 5-10 years ago, but has lost favor, and is performed <5% of the time today. Sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass are still minimally invasive operations with a lower long-term risk of needing another operation. Both of these operations have much better weight loss as well.
