“Is infant ibuprofen the same as children's ibuprofen?”
My infant has a fever. I want to know if infant ibuprofen is the same as children's ibuprofen?

For Ibuprofen, the medication is the same in children's and infant's, but the CONCENTRATION is different, which means the dosing is different. Infant ibuprofen is more concentrated, so you administer a smaller dose. For acetaminophen, the formulations were recently changed and both the infant's and the children's are the same concentration.

Hello,
Yes, the medication is the same, but the dose is different so the number of ml should be adjusted. Infants ibuprofen is 100mg/5 ml and children's is 200mg/5ml.
Feel better.

USE EXTREME CAUTION:
Infant Motrin (Ibuprofen) is NOT the same as Children’s Motrin, and in recent years, this has resulted in older children being given too high of a dose of Infant Motrin. The infant version has nearly twice the amount of Ibuprofen (200 mg/tsp) than Children’s Motrin, which has 100 mg per teaspoon. If the medicine is a generic version, the mg dosage may vary. Ibuprofen is usually dosed based on kilogram weight (pounds divided by 2.2) and is given at 5 or 10 mg/kg based on severity of fever. The best advice is to follow the instructions on the packaging carefully, and if the weight instructions for your child is not on the labeling, call your health care provider and have them calculate the dosage for you. If you believe your child has inadvertently been given too high of a dose, call Poison Control immediately. Poison Control is a great resource. They can calculate the dose specifically and implement emergency measures if necessary.
