Is it dangerous to have a high platelet count?

My 15 year old daughter's blood test revealed that she has a high platelet count. Is it dangerous to have a high platelet count?

Thrombocytosis can cause dangerous clots in your blood vessels, increasing your risk for stroke and heart attack. Thank you.
If the platelet count is high(ie--greater than about 600-700 thousand), the risk of vasular occlusive events(ie--strokes) can increase. This is why if the platelet count is significantly higher than normal and is due to a primary bone marrow disease, treatment to reduce the platelet number is recommended.

Depends on how high. Too many platelets can increase the risk of clots. She may need an examination of her bone marrow to find out what is going on. Increased platelets can also be secondary to something else such as iron deficiency and medications. Discuss with her physician.

It depends how high the count is. if it is high moral or just above normal it is fine. If it is very high then she should see a pediatric hematologist for evaluation.
