Plastic Surgeon Questions Nose Plastic Surgery

Is nose surgery painful?

I need to have plastic surgery on my nose. Is this surgery painful? How long is the recovery time?

Rhinoplasty surgery recovery does involve modest pain and swelling, appropriately and easily treated with pain medication. Plan on 1 to 2 weeks for recovery depending on the type of surgery.
Good luck.
Nasal surgery is not a painful operation. The most common complaints are "stuffy nose" from swelling inside the nose and a "dry mouth" as you are forced to breath out of your mouth, like having a bad cold. Saline nasal spray and Afrin (no more than twice a day and no more than 5 days) may be helpful for the stuffy nose and vaseline on your lips and drink a lot of
liquids for the dry mouth.

Pain varies from person to person, but it is painful. Go to board certified plastic surgeon who will be able to discuss pain management with you it is very bearable! Recovery also varies rhinoplasty is a surgery of millimeters and one would need to assess a surgical plan based on your desired results.
Thank you for your thoughtful questions. The truth is that any surgical procedure can be uncomfortable and there is no exception with nose surgery or Rhinoplasty (also referred to as a nose job). This can be due to many things such as pressure, congestion, difficulty breathing through the nose and yes pain. However, most patients are able to easily tolerate the pain and discomfort associated with rhinoplasty, by taking some oral pain meds. Most patients need only a few days of pain meds and then they find that simple Tylenol will suffice.
As far as recovery for rhinoplasty it usually takes 1-2 weeks for most of the immediate swelling to subside. However, for about 6 weeks we don't want you to wear glasses or put pressure on your new nose. This way you can ensure that all the tissues fuse in their proper location and there is no shifting of the bones. Also, your nose can be mildly swollen for up to a year. No, this doesn't mean you look swollen but you feel like your nose is still firm or numb. Time will take care of these feelings and you will love your new nose.
Hi. This is Dr. Ciardullo. Remarkably about 90% of patients say that rhinoplasty is not painful. In fact this same percentage of patients report back to me that they never even took their pain medication that was prescribed or they just took it the first day that never took it again. If you go to real self.com where patients write reviews there are approximately 190 reviews under my name most of themRhinoplasty patients. Many of them address this very question. Take it from them not just from me. Best wishes and good luck with your upcoming surgery. Dr. Ciardullo
If good anesthesia is used while that doing a nose surgery, there should be very minimal postoperative pain. The recovery that is particularly concerning the patient usually lasts about a week when sutures are removed at one week as well as A protective shield.
