Thank you for this inquiry. Yes, psychotherapy in connection with lifestyle changes can be very effective in the treatment of all levels of anxiety. Some might also consider short-term use of an adjunctive psychopharmacutical intervention as well.

Anxiety is one of the easiest mental health disorders to be treated with psychotherapy. In fact, only psychotherapy treats anxiety.
Yes, psychotherapy can be very effective for anxiety, particularly Cognitive Behavioral psychotherapy which teaches how to change maladaptive thoughts and how to learn specific behaviors aimed at the reduction of anxiety.
Yes, highly affective. Particularly those that are cognitively behaviorally focused. It will force you to address issues which may make you uncomfortable, but get your anxiety under control.

Yes, many flavors of psychotherapy are very effective for anxiety. There are cognitive behavioral methods, psychodynamic methods, hypnosis methods, meditation methods…and of course there is psychopharm. Perhaps you could consult your primary care who, I hope, knows you well enough to help you to choose a practitioner (psychologist, social worker, psychiatrist, meditation teacher) who best fits your style of thinking.
Good luck! There will certainly be a treatment that will match your needs.

Hello,

Yes, psychotherapy is highly effective for the treatment of anxiety.

Dr. Susan
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) has been found to be effective for the treatment of anxiety. Depending on severity, trends in research also support the use of psychotherapy in conjunction with non habit-forming anxiety medications for greater symptom reduction.
