“Is a rash normal with penicillin? ”
I was taking penicillin to treat my strep throat but I noticed that I started to develop a rash on my neck. I stopped taking it immediately and called my doctor, but he wasn't in the office. Is a rash normal with penicillin?

Hello! This could be an allergy to penicillin, as a rash is not normal while taking the medication. There is also a small chance you may have a viral throat condition called infectious mononucleosis which can give you a rash after taking penicillins so you should be tested for it!
A rash is one of many side effects to penicillin. It is not normal. It could develop into a more severe condition lead if sometimes into an anaphylactic shock. If a rash develops after taking penicillin, the medication should be stopped, the doctor should be contacted, and the patient should be seen immediately for assessment.
