OB-GYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) Questions Vaginal Discharge

Is vaginal discharge a sign of an infection?

I noticed that I had vaginal discharge that was egg-shell white and sticky. I never noticed this discharge before. Is this a sign of an infection?

Most likely without any other symptoms like an odor or itching, it is probably a normal ovulatory discharge. If it persists more than a couple of days, see a gynecologist for some testing.
Not necessarily. Could be normal and if that is the case should tend to fluctuate with your cycles or your hormones. Increased itching or odor could imply either a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis. Pain or unusual bleeding could be a cause for concern and would necessitate a visit to your gyn provider.
No, not necessary. Bad smell or itching are signs of infection.

Vaginal discharge can be normal, but if it is smelly, that can be a sign of infection. You should see a gynecologist to see if it is normal or not.
Not necessarily. This is a time where an exam and possibly cultures may be necessary.
