Anesthesiologist Questions Anesthesia

Is it possible to have local anesthesia for a surgical procedure on my foot?

I have to have a plantar fascitis surgery on my foot. I'm terrified of general anesthesia. Since the procedure is on my foot (and not my torso or an organ), can I have local anesthesia or "twilight" instead of going under general anesthesia?

Yes, it’s very possible to have a local anesthetic block with sedation, or what you describe as a twilight sleep.
In answer to your question, it is possible to have a surgical procedure on the foot with local or regional anesthesia and conscious sedation. However, each situation and each patient is unique, and this would best be discussed with your personal anesthesia provider on the day of surgery. The surgeon should also be advised of your preference prior to surgery.

Yes, but you might want a denser block, like that of regional anesthesia to block the entire foot and light sedation or "twilight sleep" would be adequate - depending on your medical co-morbidity/pending no contraindications and the provider/surgeon they can also supplement with local at the site if needed to deepen the block.
