Cardiologist Questions Cardiac Arrest

Could menopause increase the risk of a heart attack?

I am 48 years old and have recently started menopause. Lately, my chest has also been hurting and I have been experiencing a lot of hot flashes. I'm aware that these are usually the side effects of menopause, but this is happening more than I'm used to. I'm worried that these signs could indicate something worse. Am I at risk for a heart attack?

Possibly but chest discomfort is NOT always from the heart
These symptoms could be due to menopause but if you are concerned, it should always be checked. Menopause does increase risk of heart problems and women sometimes manifest heart symptoms differently then men.
Yes as hormonal changes can lead to heart disease, in addition to risk factors that you may have . You may want to do a basic cardiac workup , no harm and a lot of good. Also I would check your hormones.
You are at no higher risk in general at this time.
