OB-GYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) Questions Delayed periods

I have missed my period and the pregnancy test is negative. What could be wrong?

My period was due 12 days ago but I still haven't had it. I did a home pregnancy test which came negative. What could be wrong with me? Should I take another one just in case?

Many things can cause a delay in menstrual cycles. I would retest and, if still negative, see your gynecologist for further work up.
Perhaps nothing is wrong. A post ovulation ovarian cyst (corpus luteum cyst) can delay your period for a few days or a few weeks. Acute stress can alos affect your cycle. I would definitely repeat your pregnancy test and if negative, you can relax a bit and wait for your period to start naturally. I typically have not intervened unless 4-6 weeks has passed. An ultrasound may be indicated. If you are perimenopausal, this may be part of the hormonal changes that occur at this time.
You should repeat the test again. Several things could be going on such as low thyroid function, anovulation, hormonal disbalance. You should see a doctor if not pregnant.
If you have not been using contraception, then this does put you at risk for pregnancy. However, most urine pregnancy tests are very sensitive. It is not uncommon in times of stress or change in routine to not ovulate and hence miss a period. If you are unsure, repeating the test is a good idea. If you do not have a period within the next 30 days and your repeat pregnancy test remains negative, I would see your Ob/Gyn. They will rule out other potential concerns. I hope this was helpful.

Repeat pregnancy test in 2 weeks and if still negative, see gynecologist to rule out hormonal imbalance.
There can be a lot of reasons you can miss your periods. You need to see your obgyn and get a hormonal panel.
A home urine pregnancy test usually is positive two weeks after conception.
