“After a stroke what is the recommended physical therapy?”
My father suffered from a stroke but is now back home and doing a little better. What is the form of physical therapy that you would recommend for his faster recovery?

Every stroke can affect people differently, so there's no one size fits all answer here; however, PT can absolutely help to identify and reduce his fall risk, improve his ability to utilize the affect limb(s), help him gain confidence and find his safe limitations, improve his mobility and independence and give him answers to the natural questions that arise after such a significant life event.
Following an injury or stroke, physical therapy can help individuals regain as much normal and independent functioning as possible, thereby improving their quality of life.
By Muscle Retraining:
After an injury or stroke, individuals often need to retrain their muscles to perform tasks they have been doing independently for most of their lives, such as eating and walking. Physical therapy supports this retraining process, helping patients regain their independence.
And Customized Recovery Plans:
A physical therapist will create a custom plan utilizing scientifically based methods to help patients return to their desired activities as soon as possible. This plan will consider the healing process and the physical requirements involved in the activity.

Hello! It is unique for each individual. If he is already home, I would recommend OutPatient Therapy and request a neuro specific/focused therapist - it will make a big difference in his quality of care. Hope this helps.
After stroke, some cases take up to a year of physical therapy, it depends on the severity of the stroke. So, I do recommend continuing PT at home and then outdoor rehabilitation.
It’s best to have an evaluation by a physical therapist for your father in order to tailor a specific program to address his needs. Each person’s symptoms post stroke vary.
ANY!! Get him to a local Physical Therapist. Recent studies have shown greater return of function with early interventions. If he is unable to get out have a Home Health Physical Therapist come in. Best wishes and good luck
Your father needs to incorporate physical therapy type exercise/activity for a few hours throughout the day, everyday. Unfortunately, unless you are able to pay out of pocket for this, you will be likely be limited by insurance to a couple days of treatment per week for 2-3 months max.
If your dad cannot leave the house, you can start with a home PT. If he can leave the house, I would recommend a private practice that is not so busy that they cannot spend some quality time working with your dad vs a large corporate chain PT saying, "Here are some exercises. Do them while I go treat someone else. I'll be back in 5 minutes."
Ultimately though, his recovery will depend his desire and ability and on you and any family and friends that can help him perform exercises for a few hours every day. PT treatments a few times a week, which come to an end, are usually not enough. You will need to take the initiative and learn how to help him recover.

I highly recommend outpatient physical therapy that has an extensive background working with neurological patients. Here at Ke Ola Kino Physical Therapy, I focus on functional plane motions.
