Can plastic surgery remove birthmarks?

I have a brown birthmark on my face that I want to get rid of. Will plastic surgery help in removing it?

Plastic surgery is a common way to remove birthmarks. If it is small in size, a simple procedure of excision and stitching can remove it completely. If it is a very large birthmark, removal may require multiple staged smaller excisions with the possibility of tissue expansion done between the excision procedures. This is done to help preserve vital facial structures and for cosmetic reasons. Please consult with a board certified plastic or facial surgeon before having such a treatment done.
The short answer is YES! However after a small biopsy to prove the birthmark is benign there are other options such as some lasers can lighten or in many cases eliminate the benign pigmentation and one can avoid surgery.
