Plastic Surgeon Questions Rhinoplasty

What do I need to do in the week leading up to surgery to prepare?

I am having a rhinoplasty done next week, and I want to make sure I am doing everything right on my end to make sure the procedure goes smoothly. What do I need to do in the week leading up to surgery to prepare?

Hello, I provide my patients with a 14 page packet, a week prior to surgery. Call your surgeon and ask them for their instruction package. For further information, you can visit my website, at Drroya.com. Good luck!
If you have decided to invest your time and money to change the appearance of your nose, then you will certainly want to invest in preparing your body before the procedure to ensure the best possible outcome after the surgery. Here are some DOs and DON'Ts: 1. Do take 2000 mg of Vitamin C daily for two weeks leading up to your surgery, to ensure rapid collagen formation post-operatively. 2. Do take arnica montana prior to surgery to reduce bruising and swelling. 3. Eat a healthy, balanced diet after surgery to heal quickly and to prevent constipation from pain medication. 4. Do not take any aspirin, Motrin, Advil or ibuprophen, or drink any alcohol for one week prior to and one week after your surgery. 5. Do not do any strenuous activity or carry anything more than ten pounds for ten days after your surgery.
Great question! I ask my patients to review my pre- and post-surgery instructions carefully and with their families (or someone who will be caring for the patient the first day-two days after surgery); prepare any supplies they may need after surgery (such as cold compresses, stool softeners, etc); eliminate elective blood-thinning medications (such as Advil, Aspirin, etc); take a daily multivitamin; and eat a healthy diet with lots of hydration. Your surgeon likely has his or her own specific instructions; please inquire about these, and best of luck with your procedure!
Normally, your surgeon is supposed to provide you with written instructions. Since that is not the case, I instruct my patients: To avoid taking Aspirin, Advil, Aleve, vitamin E, and other anti-inflammatory drugs that may cause bleeding at least one week prior to the surgery date. You also need an adult to escort you home after the procedure. The day of surgery, don't wear your jewelry.
