“Psychoanalysis vs. Cognitive behavioral therapy?”
I'm trying to figure out the best type of therapy for my mother's OCD. She is finally ready to get help. Should she visit a psychoanalyst or someone who does cognitive behavioral therapy?

CBT is not for your mother. Cause and effect, actual reaction reward punishment; CBT is not the answer. Psychoanalysis is the answer. She will search back into her past and remember how it begun.
Dear Sir/Madam:
Thanks for your concern about your mom's OCD. Is she on any medication? What does her psychiatrist or PCP recommend? Both Psychoanalysis and CBT have their merits. Why not have mom check out someone that specializes in both and see who she connects with as that is important. Psychoanalysis traditionally required 2-3 visits weekly. There is also hypnotherapy/regression therapy. It gets to the roots and causes of the underlying issues and helps the person heal from them. Hypnotherapy cuts down on the number of sessions.
I wish your mom well.

Although this is hard to answer without more information, cognitive behavioral therapy is the more commonly used to treat OCD. Hope this helps.
Cognitive behavioral therapy. She’ll need to see someone who specializes in OCD and does Exposure and Response Prevention. Good luck!
CBT will address her underlying thoughts and triggers. It’s the best evidence-based treatment for OCD.
Hi- cognitive behavioral therapy, specifically, exposure and response prevention has the strongest evidence supporting its use in the treatment of OCD. Best of luck! Dr. R
Usually psychoanalysis is a long term therapy. Cognitive therapies are shorter, in some cases. It depends on what you are looking for: Causes or efective treatment.
