Gastroenterologist Questions Bloating

What could be the reason for my persistent bloating?

I am constantly feeling bloated for the past couple weeks. I haven't changed my diet or done anything differently. Is there an issue with my digestion or is something wrong? What should I do?

Bloating is a very general symptom and could be a sign of many different underlying problems. For example, if you have become constipated. This could lead to bloating. There can be many reasons for sudden onset of constipation. Other possible symptoms can be due to bowel irregularity, gallbladder disease, small bowel bacterial overgrowth, irritable bowel disease, the development of intolerance to sugars like lactose or fructose, to name a few, gluten intolerance, among many other issues. If you are having bothersome symptoms of bloating that are causing problems. It's best that you see your physician to begin to work through the differential diagnosis and to decide if any particular test may be appropriate.
I have found that most patients with bloating respond to a low carbohydrate diet. Many carbs are poorly digested and they tend to enter the small intestine and draw fluid into the lumen, resulting in bloating. This is assuming that the bloating is worse after you eat. If your abdomen is getting distended with no relation to the diet then you need to see a doctor promptly to get evaluated.
Hi,

Bloating is a non specific symptom, but sometimes it may indicate certain specific GI conditions. Try a healthy diet, regular exercise, with adequate sleep, and if your symptoms persist, then please visit a specialist for further testing.
