Sports Medicine Specialist Questions Tommy John Surgery

What is the recovery like from tommy john surgery?

My 14 year old son injured his elbow pitching during a baseball game. He is unable to move it and the doctor mentioned tommy john surgery. Will he be able to play baseball again? will his elbow ever be the same?

Tommy John (ulnar nerve instability) is very unusual in this age group. See a specialist.
Discuss this with his Surgeon. Recovery is normally 4-12 weeks.
I am not his doctor, but TOMMY JOHN SURGERY requires 2 surgical procedures and it depends on how your son comes out of that and how well he does what he is told to do. Baseball is a hard sport and he may never pitch a ball well enough to play the position again.

I do wish him well,
