Orthopedic Surgeon (Orthopedist) Questions Shoulder surgery

What are the restrictions after a shoulder surgery?

My grandfather just underwent shoulder surgery. What are the restrictions to keep in mind so that he doesn't do damage and can heal faster?

It depends on the surgery. We tailor our post-operative regimen to each patient. Small rotator cuff tears do not always have to have a sling, while large tears can be kept in a sling for up to 6 weeks. After some types of shoulder replacements, we don't use a sling at all, and we often use a sling for a shorter period of time following replacements than when we repair the rotator cuff. Your grandfather needs to make sure he understands his doctor's plan.

The restrictions depend on the injury and type of procedure performed. You should contact the Surgeon for details.
